Jeromy Johnson, Head of School
I was born in Wyoming, and while I am a Wyoming Cattle Rancher’s son, I have lived in several states, but have now called Colorado my home for 15 years and counting. I live happily with my two wonderful boys, a beautiful wife who does medical research for the University of Colorado, and a couple of dogs who keep us busy!
Kristina Baxter, Academic Dean
After supporting my husband and his military career that took us around the world, we returned to our home state of Colorado in 2006. I was thrilled to find out that Douglas County had a Montessori school. Word of mouth, a little research, and a touch of fortune in the lottery, made DCSM our son’s new educational home. I had a traditional teaching job at the time, but as I dropped him off and picked him up, I thought how wonderful it would be to be part of the DCSM staff. Just a short year later, the door at DCSM opened in the form of Reading Specialist and Assessment Coordinator.
My position is a natural pairing with my Bachelor of Arts in Education, with endorsements in Reading and Language Arts, from Upper Iowa University, which had Montessori influence. In addition to my Colorado State Teaching License (K-8), I also hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision, a Colorado K-12 Principal’s License, and Gifted and Talented Certification from Regis University.
This is my 6th year at DCSM, and while I am proud of my work to support Reading where we are a high achieving school, I am embracing my new title as Academic Dean where my role has me as part of DCS Montessori Middle School team for half of my time. I am privileged to be a part of this exciting program that meets children at their level, on their terms, in meaningful ways that grow tomorrow’s learners and leaders.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, the world’s best dog, and a sometimes friendly cat. Hikes through our wonderful mountains, watching various sporting events, and lots of reading help me find new ways to continue to learn and grow.
Rachel Bonin, Business Manager Assistant
I was born just north of Boston, Massachusetts and am proud to say I married a Colorado native, my husband Garrett. We met on the east coast while my husband was in the Navy and I was finishing my accounting degree at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. We have called Colorado home for over ten years and are the proud parents of Madeline & Samuel. On the weekends you will find us enjoying the beautiful weather with our border collie Scout. I am truly excited to join the DCS Montessori team as the Assistant Business Manager.
Rebecca Jones, Attendance Clerk / Front Office Administrative Assistant
I was born right here in Colorado at 10,152 feet in the wild Rocky Mountains. Growing up in the mountains taught me to love wild places. I love hiking the roads less traveled, kayaking wild waters, camping under the stars and photographing all my adventures with my family and my doggos. My husband Kevin is US Air Force retired and my daughter is currently serving. Go Air Force! My son Connor was a student at DCS Montessori for 8 years and is now in high school. He has shown me what “help me to help myself” truly means. He speaks Montessori and sometimes I understand him.
When the school year calls, I am forced to come down from the wilderness but being a part of our amazing DCS Montessori community fills my heart with joy!
Becca Schrank, Health Assistant & Child Care Director
I’ve been working in early childhood education for many years, two of them at DCS Montessori, and completed my director licensure in 2013. I spent the following year working as a director at another district school, but have learned that this school is really where my heart belongs and I am thrilled to be back in the amazing DCS Montessori community.
Brycie Strother, Registrar / Office Manager
I was born in New York ~ but my crazy parents decided to pack up and move to Honolulu, Hawaii when I was about 3 years old. As all Hawaii locals know, the only important thing I need to tell you about my life in Hawaii is that I graduated from Roosevelt High School. I loved my time in the Aloha State, but in 1982, I moved to Colorado and fell in love with the people here. My husband Steve and I met while working for the Federal Aviation Administration. Our two daughters, Jordan and Charli, both attended DCS Montessori – Charli is currently a student here. My husband is thrice retired – he’s former Air Force Reserves, former Federal Aviation Administration and former United Air Lines. He currently works part time for Marriott hotels.
My job encompasses a number of duties including enrolling new students, taking care of students who transfer to other schools, posting news and other items to our website, helping parents with the Campus Portal access, and accounts receivable. My most favorite job is morning carpool – I love seeing our students’ smiling faces each morning and watching them joyfully head to their classrooms! And I love greeting our many wonderful parents too! Carpool and a cup of coffee – what a great way to start the day!
Janet von Russow, Business Manager
I was born in Chicago, but have lived in many places: Kalmazoo, Michigan; Memphis, Tennessee; Long Island, New York; and, of course, Colorado. My husband, Wolfgang, and I have two lovely daughters – Alyx and Kayti. Our girls started preschool at DCS Montessori when it was just starting – so we’ve seen many changes over the years! Alyx has graduated from Seattle University and is now working in Colorado, Kayti is going to be a senior at Regis University.
My responsibilities include all accounts payable, budgeting, reporting our financials to the Board, District and State and payroll and benefits for our employees.
Sheila Wolfe, Curriculum Director and Child Care Director
I started working here at DCSM in 2005 as a Lower Elementary teacher. In 2010, my career advanced and currently I am the Montessori Curriculum Director. I have a strong sense of pride in our fabulous school, students, parents, teachers, and staff.
I am a member of the Board of Directors for the Colorado Montessori Association since its beginning in August, 2012. We have done an incredible amount of work to advocate for Montessori education. I hold two Montessori Certifications in Primary and Lower Elementary from the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies. I have been teaching in private and public Montessori schools for over 20 years. It is my passion in life. Life is rewarding when your work allows you to practice your beliefs on a daily basis.
I have a B.A. and Master’s of Education from Regis University. In addition, I hold a Colorado Teaching License as well as a Principal’s License.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, embroidery, and I am a bluegrass enthusiast.
“It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open up himself to life.” Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind.
